Romania to implement public warning in a few weeks
RO-ALERT, the public warning system to be launched in Romania
On 5 October, the Romanian government adopted an emergency ordinance on the implementation of a public warning system called RO-ALERT. The project comes in the aftermath of dangerous meteorological conditions and it was first announced after severe storms hit the Western part of the country in mid-September, leaving eight people dead and 145 injured.
The benefits of a public warning system come without doubts, as it allows citizens to be informed about dangerous events in which their life might be at risk. RO-ALERT will notify citizens via SMS, using mobile network operators and it is expected to be implemented in the few weeks to come.
