New European Commissioner in charge of 112 – Opportunity for Europe?

Today, the European Commission nominated Mrs Mariya Gabriel, Bulgaria's new Commissioner, as Commissioner for the Digital Economy and Society.

EENA would like to congratulate Mrs Gabriel and wish her every success within her new role.

Her nominated portfolio includes the 112 service and access to emergency services. Mrs Gabriel has been a supporter of 112 for a long time during her time as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). She has been a member of the MEPs 112 Champions network of EENA, a group of MEPs dedicated to promoting the quality of the 112 service for all Europeans.

We hope that her support will continue and that the 112 service will be a priority under her leadership of the digital portfolio.

But how can we improve public safety for European citizens? Take a look below at our starter-kit infographic.

The 112 service needs to be high in the agenda; lives depend on it. We are of course available to work with Mrs Gabriel and her team and contribute any way we can.
