The X_HeERO project is an EU-wide initiative aimed at preparing Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) for the deployment of Next Generation eCall (NGeCall).
As mobile networks phase out 2G and 3G technologies, NGeCall leverages packet-switched communications to ensure faster, more reliable emergency call data transmission in case of a traffic accident.
The project will help prepare PSAPs to implement NGeCall based on extensive end-to-end testing and analysis of the eCall process, from vehicle to PSAP. X_HeERO will also address challenges in the existing eCall system by enhancing PSAP infrastructure, improving interoperability across borders and streamlining the integration of data from third-party service providers, vulnerable road users, and autonomous vehicles.
X_HeERO will deliver a blueprint for PSAPs for implementing NGeCall, ensuring faster response times, improved data accuracy, and greater road safety across Europe.
The project brings together the expertise and experience of 41 partners from across Europe. The diverse range of professionals involved will ensure the development of a comprehensive implementation plan for NGeCall towards improving road safety in Europe.
The project started in December 2024, and is expected to end in 2027.
