European 112 Day 2015

European 112 Day 2015

On the occasion of the European 112 Day 2015 (11 February), the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) proposed a theme for promotional and educational activities.

EENA believes that the "False calls" issue could be highlighted in 2015: all emergency services are affected by false emergency calling. False emergency calls divert emergency services away from people who may be in life-threatening situations and who need urgent help. This can mean the difference between life and death for someone in trouble. False emergency calls are also an expensive problem because emergency services need to multiply their resources to assure they are not being overloaded by inappropriate calls and therefore may not be able to respond to real emergencies.

More information on this topic can be found on the EENA website:

• False Calls EENA Operations document here;
• Promotion of emergency numbers EENA Operations document here.

On the 112 Day, celebrated every year on 11 February since 2009 all over Europe, Member States organise communication activities to promote the European Emergency number 112.
