The world is becoming increasingly data-centric. As technology evolves, the spotlight turns to data analytics. Data analytics has a huge potential to benefit public safety and keep citizens safer, as explored in EENA’s latest document.
The field of data analytics is broad. Its implementation in public safety can range from predicting crimes in certain areas to using social media data to monitor the impacts of natural disasters. Location analytics can be particularly important, for instance for effective resource allocation.
The pandemic brought into sharp relief the value that data analytics can bring, with the introduction of contact tracing apps and the implementation of studies to analyse the correlation between 112 calls and COVID-19 cases. It highlighted that public safety organisations need to have a strong grasp of the field and its potential so that they can quickly exploit the benefits when needed.
To bring together the knowledge on the topic, EENA’s new document ‘Data Analytics in Public Safety’ examines the different concepts of data analytics and how they can be applied in the public safety sector. It explores how organisations such as the London Fire Brigade (UK) and 112 Canary Islands (Spain) have made valuable use of data analytics, as well as discussing the capabilities of services such as the Copernicus Emergency Management Service.
