Next Generation 112 (NG112) has been identified as the way forward for emergency services. The adoption of Next Generation technology has tremendous benefits for emergency responders and citizens.
But together with opportunities, transitioning from traditional telephony to IP-based systems brings several concerns, especially when it comes to security and privacy.
Among others, two major concepts discussed in the document are the ones of cybersecurity and privacy: the need to provide mechanisms to protect the new infrastructure and the data traversing it. This involves more than just deploying security systems technology like firewalls and intrusion detection systems. It is about policy, operational procedures, threat intelligence and assessment, as well as information sharing mechanisms with friendly stakeholders.
