At the end of last year, the Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) addressed telecom companies concerning 112 accessibility via 4G and WiFi because not all providers had managed to meet this requirement.
However, this is no longer the case, and 112 can now be reached at all telecom providers in the Netherlands via 4G (voice over LTE) and via WiFi.
“Because good accessibility of the emergency number can be of vital importance in emergencies, it is important that 112 can be reached via all techniques for mobile telephone calls,” said Manon Leijten, board member of the ACM.
Although the telecom providers have enabled the accessibility of 112 via WiFi and 4G, telephone manufacturers need to now make the operating systems of mobile devices suitable for this.
