The European Commission publishes 2024 report on the implementation of the EU emergency number 112

The European Commission has published its 2024 report on the implementation of the European emergency number 112.

Key findings on the report include:

  • 62% of all emergency calls in the EU are now to the single European emergency number 112—a significant increase from 2021.
  • 2.7 million emergency calls were made by roaming end-users, representing 1.56% of all 112 calls.
  • Advanced Mobile Location (AML) is now enabled in 25 Member States, Iceland, and Norway, improving caller location accuracy, though roaming support remains limited.
  • Accessibility challenges persist for end-users with disabilities, but interoperable real-time text solutions are on track for deployment by June 2025 under the European Accessibility Act.
  • Upgrades to packet-switched technology are underway, enhancing versatility and redundancy for emergency communications, with key deadlines in 2025–2027.

This report, submitted every two years to the European Parliament and Council, highlights the progress and ongoing challenges in ensuring reliable and inclusive access to 112 across the EU.
