On 2 December, EENA, in cooperation with Grégory Allione and the European Parliament Intergroup on Resilience, Disaster Management and Civil Protection, will hold an event in the European Parliament with high level representatives from the Ukrainian government to discuss how Europe can better protect its citizens during severe crises such as war.
This event will feature presentations from Leonid Tymchenko, Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine, Roman Pyrush, Deputy Head of Ukraine’s emergency services, and firefighters from SES Ukraine, outlining their experience leading emergency response since the Russian invasion in 2022.
An EU perspective will also be provided by speakers from the European Parliament, such as Gregory Allioné, and speakers from the European Commission and EENA.
This event will cover both technical matters, such as how to protect citizens during challenging events like missile attacks and telecommunications blackouts, and policy matters, such as the importance of strengthening emergency communications systems in Europe, and increasing support for Ukraine’s emergency services. The importance of using the upcoming Union Civil Protection Mechanism and Digital Networks Act to improve public safety in Europe will also be emphasised.
If you work in EU public safety and would like to attend, please reach out to Peter Lonergan at [email protected] to see if a spot is available.
