Romanian authorities adopted last Friday a new ordinance in order to improve the accuracy of the caller location information obtained through the telephone networks and transmitted to emergency services in the context of an emergency communication.
The new rules intend to enable some network configurations in order to better determine the position of a caller based on their cell signal and allow emergency services to make use of such information.
Once deployed and operational, the new method to determine network-based location will complement Advanced Mobile Location, which is already rolled out in the country since 2020, in allowing emergency services to determine with precision the location of a person contacting the emergency services.
